  • Over 1,800 vehicles
  • Over 100 tons of e-waste, filling eight semi-trailers

May 8–9, Institutional Events

  • Local schools, non-profits and small businesses
  • Over 25 tons of e-waste, filling three semi-trailers

A staff of 60 professional movers lined the perimeter of two lanes. They got vehicles through quickly, unloading up to seven at a time. Workers packed pallets six feet high before loading them into semi-trailers.

CSCI @ U-M was thrilled to provide such a service to the community. The e-Waste Recycling Events:

  • Prevented 145 tons e-waste from entering local landfills
  • Prevented hazardous elements from contaminating soil and water systems
  • Returned precious metals, plastics and glass to the commodity stream to manufacture new materials

e-waste eventSims Recycling Solutions, Palmer Moving and Storage, Ann Arbor Public Schools, CSCI @ U-M volunteers and Apple worked together to make these events happen and those who brought their e-waste made it a true success.

CSCI @ U-M has committed to sponsoring another set of free e-waste recycling events next year and hope to expand participation to Flint and Dearborn campuses.
